The evening begins with a pre-concert panel discussion celebrating NEC alum Cecil Taylor, Brown Hall. Panelists include Carl Atkins, founding chair of NEC's Jazz Studies department, Marvin E. Gilmore, Jr., NEC alumnus and overseer, and Joe Morris, NEC.

  9. NEC is a tough admit, but ANY audition based program is a crapshoot. Too many variables involved. Plenty of anecdotes of students accepted to Juilliard, but not getting in at "lesser" programs like Eastman, Peabody, IU/Jacobs, Oberlin, (fill in name here), etc.
