  2. The first LP featured is "Lightnin' Strikes", the LP on Vee Jay. This track LP version lacks the 4 bonus tracks featured on the import Charly Records release which I own. Those 4 bonus tracks come from an old live Vee Jay LP called "Coffee House Blues", so if 4/5(1).

  3. I let Hopkins guitar playing and Texas-blues voice swim through me. Everyone has a starting point. I heard a few things about Lightnin' Hopkins and I believed all of it. I heard someone found Lightnin' Hopkins poor, forgotten, and hungry. I hard this record was made in a hotel room with a big old reel-to-reel tape recorder.5/5(3).

  5. Hopkins is in top form throughout Lightnin' Strikes which likely adds to the album's cohesiveness. His guitar playing is exceptional and his vocals are as relaxed and cool as anyone could hope for. The material is enjoyable too, but Hopkins could turn almost anything into an effective blues tune.
